Let’s soar! Aerials, Partners, and Safety:
We’re going to be working on some high-flying aerials for the Intermediate and Intermediate + dancer!
Aerials require teamwork, timing, and technique, but also close physical contact with a partner you trust and enjoy dancing with: so you must sign-up with a designated partner!
Learning aerials requires spotters for safety, along with a base and a flyer. If you’re going to be the base, be sure you’re comfortable supporting your partner’s weight. If you’re going to be the flyer, be aware that inversions will be discussed in class, but it’s always your choice whether or not to go forward with an air-step.
With each partnership, it’s worth considering whether you both feel physically comfortable working together. Both roles involve physical exertion, so please check with your doctor if you have a medical condition or aren’t sure whether this activity is suitable for you.
We’ll learn how to safely spot other couples, as well as best practices for open communication with our partners-Safety First! Both partners should feel comfortable communicating boundaries and opting out of any movement at any time. As with any physical activity, there are inherent risks, so a waiver must be signed before class. Please read the waiver in advance here.
What aerials will we be learning? Glad you asked. We’ll be covering frog jumps, A-frames, basic inversions, The Frankie Flip, and The Roll-up. The last two are major-league classics! You’ll be taught by Ceth, Bethany, Emory, and Freeman, who all have years of experience in Lindy and Lindy aerials, both as teachers and dancers.
What to Bring:
NO STREET SHOES in MOVE! Studio. Please change into a cleaned pair of dance or athletic shoes in the lobby. Shoes should be closed-toe, supportive, made for movement, and free of rocks and other debris.
Water only: no food or drink in the studio. Bring your water bottle!
Wear clothes you’re comfortable moving and stretching in. Avoid jeans, jewelry, dangling items, baggy clothes and/or excess fabric that could get caught on your partner. THANK YOU!
